Karelia’s Draft Program receives a special mention in promoting European entrepreneurship

The Draft Program – an entrepreneurship programme by the Karelia University of Applied Sciences – was given a special mention in the European Enterprise Promotion Awards (EEPA) 2021. The Joensuu-based project was recognised for its innovation and creativity in disseminating local good practices to other entrepreneurs starting in the area.

The Draft Program is a small but innovative joint entrepreneurship programme of five educational institutions in eastern Finland. The programme provides microfinance and coaching to students, staff and alumni teams. The programme has developed an operating model for experimental entrepreneurship, where each client team is considered a research expedition that produces locally relevant information on the sector.

The entrepreneurial coaches, i.e. the developers of experimental entrepreneurship, will transform the lessons learned from team work into so-called useful publications. These publications are practical blogs, videos, podcasts and guides that disseminate local sector-specific practices to other new businesses in the region. About a dozen companies have been born out of the programme in recent years.

This year, a total of 47 projects from 28 countries took part in the EEPA competition in six series. The purpose of the competition is to present the best practices and approaches to promoting entrepreneurship. Another aim is to raise awareness of entrepreneurship and to encourage more people to become entrepreneurs. This is the 15th time that the European Commission will award the annual EEPA prize.

The competition finalists and projects receiving a special mention were displayed at the SME Assembly, which was held in Slovenia on 15–17 November.

How to use 360-up virtual tour marketing in healthcare

For healthcare services, creating a 360-up virtual tour can help in reaching potential clients and filling spaces in services.

Tervassalo is a rehab clinic located in Finland. The clinic specialises in substance abuse rehabilitation. Working with Digi2market partner, Karelia University of Applied Sciences, Tervassalo made their first move into 360-up virtual marketing.

Students at Karelia UAS created a 360-up virtual tour showcasing the facilities and atmosphere of Tervasslo.

How to use augmented reality in marketing

Using augmented reality (AR) in marketing isn’t confined to digital marketing. AR can also be used in print marketing.

Waahto Brewery is a small Finnish company. Dig2Market and our partner Karelia University of Applied Sciences worked with the brewery to use augmented reality in marketing.

The core marketing tool created was a tri-fold brochure. This can be set standing on pub tables in Finland. With support from marketing agency Digitoimisto Digitaali Oy, the brochure design included AR codes. These are linked to a range of amusing animated characters.

360 degrees tours can help increase profits

Covid-19 has meant that many SMEs have lost footfall – but 360 degrees tours can help keep your business in profit.

With lockdowns and restrictions, as a business owner, you need to be thinking of how best to use digital marketing. Digi2Market supported Finnish wellness company Rantakylän Fysikaalinen Hoitolaitos (RFH) in creating a 360 degrees tour.

RFH offers physiotherapy and a gym. During covid-19 customers have been more concerned about hygiene. At times RFH had to close its doors.

Using 360s degrees tours – as a virtual tour – has enabled customers to see how RFH are keeping the premises as covid safe as possible. RFH have also launched an online shop and booking service.

Digi2Market Webinar Series for SMEs continues

Following on from the recent highly successful webinars for SMEs on export marketing, Digi2Market continues its engagement with small businesses from the West of Ireland, Northern Ireland, Finland and Iceland. Taking place in the first week in December, SMEs will have the opportunity to extend their skills and knowledge in the areas of Search Engine Optimisation and Automated Marketing using Mailchimp.

First up is Michael Wall’s Search Engine Optimisation Training. Michael is one of Ireland’s longest-serving SEO and Google Ads specialists with over 20 years in the search marketing industry. Michael is a self-starter, having taught himself HTML and Active Server Pages that helped him build dynamic web sites and create software packages that he successfully sold online all over the world to web developers using SEO and Google Ads.

Highlights include getting a link on PayPal for his software, having 3 online client meetings in 3 different continents in the one day back in the early 2000’s, and working with lots of different businesses and people that have all taught him so much.

Michael still has the same passion for digital marketing that he had when he first started. As well as running campaigns for clients Michael gets a lot of satisfaction from sharing that knowledge with others.

The main goal being to enable these SME’s to plan and execute successful digital lead generation plans for their business.

University of Eastern Finland published a comprehensive report on sustainability

University of Eastern Finland (UEF), who is active collaborating with Digi2Market partner Karelia University of Applied Sciences in many EU-funded projects, has published an comprehensive sustainability review.

UEF report on sustainable development is a good example how complex organizations sustainability actions are, and how they are not limited to just environmental actions. The report contains examples of research, education, and practical measures related to each of the United Nations 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

– In particular, the report responds to the need to highlight sustainability and responsibility at the university. Plenty of work relating to sustainable development is being done at the University of Eastern Finland, and the mere extent of this report speaks volumes about it, says Maiju Eskelinen, Sustainable Development Specialist in UEF website.
