Personal Bio
Alan Hook is an Educator, Researcher, Thinker, Designer and Maker. He is a creator of oddities and experiences for Human and Non-Human animals and a researcher in Media and Play in the Centre for Media Research. He is Senior Lecturer in Interactive Media at Ulster University in Northern Ireland and teaches in areas on Data Communication and Visualisation, Immersive Media and Transmedia Storytelling. He is Co-Investigator on the £13m FutureScreensNI AHRC grant with Prof Paul Moore, the €2m Northern Periphery and Arctic Program project Digi2Market with Dr Helen Jackson and the UK Research and Innovation funded-project Museums, Crisis and Covid-19: Vitality and Vulnerabilities grant with Prof Elizabeth Crooke. When he’s not juggling grants outcomes, teaching and his kids he likes to think about what it might be like to live in more inclusive, multispecies futures with his projects like Equine Eyes and the Interspecies Design Toolkit which use Speculative Design and Play as an approach to thinking about possible alternative relationships with Non-Human animals.
